Wife vs. Secretary starring Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Richard Alexander, Barbara Bedford, Harry C. Bradley

Why Buy A Wife vs. Secretary starring Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Richard Alexander, Barbara Bedford, Harry C. Bradley?
For such an unheralded movie, Wife vs. Secretary provides a surprisingly satisfying time, aided immensely by the old MGM gloss and a trio of big stars. Clark Gable, so secure in his manly-man pictures, reminds us that he could be a dab hand at lightweight romance; his role is a typical Gable world-beater, a publishing tycoon with a lavish Manhattan lifestyle. But here hes happily, blissfully married, and his scenes with wife Myrna Loy are playful and cute. The only glitch is, his secretary is Jean Harlow, and despite Gables fidelity, tongues will inevitably wag. Harlow here has none of the boisterous sass of her earlier pairings with Gable–she really is just an efficient and plucky secretary, even if boss and assistant trade charged glances during a business trip to Havana–and so the movies tone is pretty genteel. The greenhorn James Stewart, still a couple of years from stardom, plays Harlows mild but suspicious suitor, and he gets stuck with obligatory dialogue urging Harlow to give up her job and settle down with him. (The movie is interesting in showing how productive and fulfilled Harlow is by work rather than marriage.) MGM mainstay Clarence Brown directed, with an approach so dignified that nothing, alas, ever gets too giddy. Still, Gable and Loy are so fun together the movie succeeds. For Thin Man fans who cant get enough of Loy and the idea of marriage-as-playtime, this is a good fix. –Robert Horton

Wonderful Film !!
This is a really good film. Love the stars in this one. A must see!

WifeVsSecretaryDVD
Quirky, adorable and charming. Gable and Loy almost give you a cavity in their most enduring portrayal of a loving, societal couple. This film is very thick with old, conservative ideals of what marriages were like but I rather enjoy that about this film. The best scene to sum up this classic is when Gable and Loy have had a fight and are seperated; he at his “club” and she at home. Loy finally succumbs to guilt and calls his club; Gable looking haughty and masculine, quits his poker game, saunters over to the phone and in a gruff voice asks: “Hello?!” Myrna Loy, sniffling away tears, softly cries: “Van…Come home!” Gables face lights up in a huge smile and yells happily: “Darling I’ll be right there!!” Then he runs straight out of the club and back home to her arms to smother her in kisses. It’s a good story with quite a bit of truth to it in response to temptation and human-nature. Harlow is quite the beauty in this film (with brains!) but Loy truly is no slouch either! Although I felt the ending left something to be desired, it’s still an enjoyable experience for anyone who enjoys old movies or Clark Gable.

A Sea without Fish: Life in the Ordovician Sea of the Cincinnati Region (Life of the Past) by David L. Meyer – Save 34% Today!

A Sea without Fish: Life in the Ordovician Sea of the Cincinnati Region (Life of the Past) by David L. Meyer

Why Buy A A Sea without Fish: Life in the Ordovician Sea of the Cincinnati Region (Life of the Past) by David L. Meyer?
The region around Cincinnati, Ohio, is known throughout the world for the abundant and beautiful fossils found in limestones and shales that were deposited as sediments on the sea floor during the Ordovician Period, about 450 million years ago–some 250 million years before the dinosaurs lived. In Ordovician time, the shallow sea that covered much of what is now the North American continent teemed with marine life. The Cincinnati area has yielded some of the worlds most abundant and best-preserved fossils of invertebrate animals such as trilobites, bryozoans, brachiopods, molluscs, echinoderms, and graptolites. So famous are the Ordovician fossils and rocks of the Cincinnati region that geologists use the term Cincinnatian for strata of the same age all over North America. This book synthesizes more than 150 years of research on this fossil treasure-trove, describing and illustrating the fossils, the life habits of the animals represented, their communities, and living relatives, as well as the nature of the rock strata in which they are found and the environmental conditions of the ancient sea.

Cincinnatian paleontology
The Tri-state area, centered on Cincinnati, is one the world’s best places to collect Late Ordovician fossils. Because of the abundance and fantastic preservation of fossils in this region, it has been the focus of a huge amount of paleontological research for more than 150 years. Moreover, as a result of the massive amount of research on these fossils, the lattermost part of the Ordovician is named the Cincinnatian Series by North American paleontologists. This new book synthesizes a great deal of this research and makes it understandable to a wide audience. _A Sea Without Fish_ is written in such a way to be readable by an audience ranging from intelligent amateur collectors to specialists in geology and paleontology.

Meyer and Davis cover the development of our knowledge of the fossils by providing biographies of the numerous individuals that have studied the fossils of this time and region. Much of this information is widely scattered and usually not available in one source. The book also describes our current knowledge of how fossils are named and classified, and discusses at length how we think the limestones and shales were deposited in the ancient seas that covered the region approximately 450 million years ago.

After these background chapters, the authors describe various groups of fossils in individual chapters. This part of the book is very well illustrated with good quality photographs and diagrams. A central section has a number of color plates, including a reproduction of the Cincinnatian Sea reconstruction by artist John Agnew. Agnew’s artwork is also used on the dust jacket.

Although it is not a comprehensive field guide, _A Sea without Fish_ gives excellent summaries of the different groups of fossils we find and cites the original scientific literature so more specific identifications can be made. Fossil groups with their own chapters include algae, sponges and corals, bryozoans, brachiopods, mollusks, annelids and other worms, arthropods (including trilobites and rare eurypterids), echinoderms (crinoids, edrioasteroids and several other groups), graptolites, conodonts, and trace fossils.

A single chapter on paleoecology by Steven Holland ties much of the fossil information together. This book is exceptionally useful as it places emphasis on what individual fossils can tell us about such divergent topics as paleoecology, biostratigraphy, plate tectonics, and evolution.

_A Sea Without Fish_ also features the best glossary for key terms I have ever seen in a popular paleontology book. This glossary should prove most useful for non-paleontologists reading the book.

I hope that this book is obtained and read by all the “amateur” collectors in the region and that it remains in print for many future editions.

Now I know
I grew up in Cincinnati and have lately taken to daydreaming about the serene, extreme other-worldliness of what it must have been like… 400 million years ago. My hometown has made me a fossil snob. 80 million-year-old bones? Meh. Dinosaurs? Newbies. And then there was the fabled diorama at the local Natural History Museum: where oh where has it gone? This is a very readable survey of the men (all men back then though the wondrous “amateur” Cincinnati fossil group, the Dry Dredgers, currently has many women members) and the sea that over time yielded the famous Cincinnatian strata. Lovely color plates that take one back in time (though the black and white technical drawings needed a massage) and there is even an image of the old diorama. Highly recommended for anyone at any knowledge level of Ordovician fossils.

A Sea Without Fish
This is a great book which helped me identify some of my Bryozoan Fossils and to understand them. It was a very helpful book.

This is a terrific shelf set
This double shelf is the perfect thing for me. I needed space for all those stupid analog to digital converter boxes, and the various remotes. I have two vcrs and a television, so I needed 3 converter boxes, and now I have the converter boxes and 6 different remote controls.

This shelf is the perfect thing to store all that stuff out of the way, yet still have it fully accessible. I ordered the shelf unit and it arrived a couple of days later. It took barely any time to put it together and my husband didn’t have to waste hours in the garage building something to do the job.

The double shelf fits my tv and is nice and sturdy. Thanks “Get Organized” for a quality product.

Double TV Top Shelf
My TV is on a nightstand and has no room for the DVD player or the cable. I knew exactly the item I wanted and couldn’t find it at Walmart, Target or even Bed, Bath and Beyond. The top of my TV has a very short area, but with the support in the back it works perfectly. This item was brand new, excellent condition, shipped quickly and a good price. I recommend this item to anyone who has a TV with no place for their DVD player. There was also plenty of space to hold some DVD’s.

UNDER CABINET SHELF UNIT
this worked out great used this set to mount under cabinet for 46 inch LCD TV has cable box and DVD player surround sound system on it

Nice quality – even the wife was impressed
Dared to make a “furniture” purchase without the wife’s approval. However, she was impressed with the style and quality of my selection.

Also, it’s quite heavy–which we like.
