You know the one about the group of horny kids who get offed one by one? Yeah, so do director Jaume Collet-Serra and his screenwriters, who have updated an old Vincent Price flick and sandwiched it between hearty slices of The Blair Witch Project and various Friday the 13th films. Lots of WB and Fox network hotties–including 24s Elisha Cuthbert, One Tree Hills Chad Michael Murray, and, well, Paris Hilton–have car trouble and stumble onto a town populated by real killer personalities. The R-rated result is fairly gruesome and, though no one ever quite looks frightened enough, Collet-Serra knows his way around a jolting suspense sequence or two. Cuthbert and an unintentionally funny Murray (striking ludicrous poses as some kind of real toughie) act more like angry ex-lovers than the fraternal twins theyre supposed to be; Hilton acts bored while her real-life video scandal is exploited for ironic kicks; and the film heads shamelessly over-the-top with each new twist. As an exercise in bloody mayhem, it has a few novel touches, but you can easily find better scares. –Steve Wiecking

Impressive
I’ve noticed a new trend in the newest horror movies lately where things seem to have gone back to nothing gorey happening until half way through the movie, like they did 20 or 30 years ago. It is like this in House of Wax. I’m not sure whether I like this new development or not but it works with House of Wax.

It starts off with a theme that many other horrors movies have used; a group of teenaged friends have car trouble in the middle of nowhere, half of the friends stay at the car and the other half go to a nearby “deserted” town in search of help.

This is a slasher movie that kills the charactors in origional ways, sometimes involving wax and I was impressed with how gorey this movie was for a fifteen.

Impressive slasher movie with plenty of gore and a good ending. And, come on, who doesnt love it when Paris Hilton gets killed? .

House of Wax Blu-Ray
I really enjoyed this movie, kind of a guilty pleasure. The story is decent, the suspense is good, the acting is pretty good considering Paris Hilton is in it. It’s not the scariest movie you have ever seen but its a very well made horror flick. I was very pleased to see that the transition from DVD to Blu-Ray went well. The movie looks great in High Def.

He also turns to surrogate dad Keith Scott (Craig Sheffer)–actually his uncle and Dans older brother–for support, and sees himself as a perpetual and doomed outsider in One Tree. All that changes when Whitey invites Lucas to join the b-ball team that Nathan dominates, a move that challenges the status quo of multiple relationships in a small community. For about a third of its episodes, this series from creator Mark Schwahn (who wrote the hit film Coach Carter) stays true to the suspense surrounding Lucass and Nathans changes in fortune. Then a bit of padding follows to the end of the season; there are 22 episodes to fill out, after all. But even as various distractions (a kidnapping subplot, a car accident and coma for a major character) and random events creep in (Dan, rather incredibly, takes over the team from Whitey at one point, thus coaching both his sons), One Tree Hill remains highly watchable. What a surprise!
If you haven’t seen this show before, you are in for a treat! I bought this on a whim right after Thanksgiving because I am a sucker for Black Friday deals. I liked Dawson’s Creek growing up and thought this show would be similar, but it is SO MUCH better!!! The first couple of episodes are a little slow…but you will be hooked in no time! I’ve since bought seasons 2, 3 & 4 and can’t stop watching. I highly recommend this for teens and adults alike! The adults in OTH are just as much involved as the teens so don’t think of this as “just another teen show.” Here is a summary without spoilers: One Tree Hill is a small town that thrives on high school basketball games. The star player has a half-brother that his father wishes was never born & it throws both of them off track when he joins the basketball team. One Tree Hill deals with topics such as drinking, pregnancy, rape, etc. I promise you won’t be disappointed in your purchase, but beware: it is very, very addictive!!!

Meanwhile, the delightfully odious Dan runs for mayor. Just when he thinks hes got it locked, Lucas’s mom, Karen (Moira Kelly), throws her hat in the ring. But those developments are minor compared to the school shooting in episode 16 (With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept).

Guest stars include Nada Surf (Return of the Future) and season two favorites Fall Out Boy (An Attempt to Tip the Scales), while recurring characters include Peytons birth mother Ellie (Sheryl Lee, Twin Peaks), and smug singer/songwriter Chris (Tyler Hilton, Walk the Line), with whom Haley collaborates again. As in the previous year, the finale (The Show Must Go On) is a cliffhanger. Fortunately for fans, One Tree Hill was picked up by the CW, so resolution awaits in season four. Two other characters either believe or maintain they are pregnant. Meanwhile, Nathans mom, Deb (Barbara Alyn Woods), develops a personality-altering drug addiction and carries around a loaded pistol; Lucas pal Skills (Antwon Tanner) gets a shot at playing basketball for the Ravens; and Mouth (Lee Norris) gets drunk and complains that girls only want to be his friend. Everything heads, inexorably, toward graduation day, which finds several crises simultaneously overlapping with the joy of moving on. Just plain Great
The show is awesome, the delivery took a while but I failed to read the shipping information and of course after being addicted to the show it made it harder to wait. The Seller was awesome and provided the shipping The DVD package was everything it said it was.

A great buy for a great show
I found this product to be worth my money, the case was in tip top condition. I didnt have any complaints with how any of the discs played as well. There wernt any scratches on any of them. I am a big One Tree Hill fan anway so of course I enjoyed my dvd set. Just a suggestion to others out there, wait until u find the One Tree Hill series to have their half off special. Thats when i bought my set, and it seemed to have saved me quite a bit of money. Season 4 is one of the better seasons, I beleive the characters start to finally come into there own.

Its goodbye to Capeside, hello to Boston in Dawsons Creeks fifth season (a.k.a.: Dawsons Creek: The College Years). While the end of the fourth season sent the five friends their separate ways–Dawson (James Van Der Beek) to USC Film School, Joey (Katie Holmes) to Worthington College, Jen (Michelle Williams) and Jack (Kerr Smith) to Boston Bay College; and Pacey (Joshua Jackson) to the high seas–it doesnt take them long to find themselves together again. Thats a good thing, especially when tragedy strikes a family member and threatens to tear the survivors apart.

More than anything, the fifth season seems to be about falling into bad relationships. Jen dates a cute but sleazy musician (Chad Michael Murray, One Tree Hill), Pacey gets a job in a restaurant where he pursues a woman (Lourdes Benedicto) already having an affair with a married man, then fends off a vampish new boss (Sherilyn Fenn, Twin Peaks). Joey is drawn to her handsome English professor (Ken Marino). And Jack joins a frat, becomes a jerk, and starts a devoted relationship with his beer bottle. Dawson meets an eccentric young filmmaker (Jordan Bridges) which in turn leads to a meeting with his favorite Boston film critic (Meredith Salenger). And Joeys new roommate, the annoyance-with-a-heart-of-gold Audrey (Busy Phillipps), becomes the newest major addition to the cast. The irritation factor is high this season, a couple of Joey is threatened interludes dont have the punch that they could have, and in the season finale, the inevitable resolution of the shows central relationship doesnt really resolve anything at all. But viewers who have followed the Capeside crew for four seasons will still want to see what happens in the fifth.

The fifth season is the first to have no DVD extras at all, and it continues the music-replacement strategy (which, since the second season has replaced much of the music, and since the third season has replaced Paula Coles theme song, all due to licensing expenses). In addition to the usual background-music switches, some scenes have been edited (for example, the episode Highway to Hell has cut two of the performances on-stage at the Drunk & Dead). Also, the opening credits of The Long Goodbye and Downtown Crossing had originally used instrumental versions of I Dont Want to Wait, which had underscored the emotion of those episodes. In the DVD set, those have been replaced by the standard version and an instrumental version, respectively, of Run Like Mad. –David Horiuchi

Coming of Age
I watched this show when it first came on but it got a little too soapy for me. But watching it as an adult has been a real eye opener. I can relate to everything and you really feel like you’re coming of age with the characters. Season 5 is unblelievable (Congrajulations Dawson)but you have to start the series from the begining to get the full effect.
