On the Right Track by The Skatalites

Why Buy A On the Right Track by The Skatalites?
Without the killer grooves and syncopated horn blasts of the always wonderful Skatalites, life on this planet would be a far duller thing. — L.A. Daily News The Skatalites are Jamaicas answer to the Motown house band and Booker T. & The MGs combined. — Rolling Stone The Skatalites took influences from jazz, calypso and US rhythm `n blues to help create the sound that dominated Jamaican sixties music … This is a must have album for anyone interested in Jamaican music and a great introduction for those who wish to learn. — BBC.co.uk More than a band, The Skatalites were and are an institution, an aggregation of top-notch musicians who didnt merely define the sound of Jamaica, they were the sound of Jamaica across the 50s and 60s. — All Music Guide The second wave of ska produced some good bands and some great music, the third wave fewer, but if you want to really hear the music played with respect for its deepest roots, you need to go to the source, and that is undoubtedly The Skatalites … The band is more musically sophisticated than many of its contemporaries were and than pretty much all of its present day imitators are. — PopMatters

Recorded in Byron Bay in 2006, On the Right Track mixes the coastal island vibes of Australias and Jamaicas hippest towns with a heavy jazz influence. Among a myriad of reissues and compilations, this album stands out as having the best new original material on an international Skatalites release since 1964. Studio sessions were held in the style of a classic jazz session, much like the one-take upbringing Studio 1 provided the group in the early days. From the late 50s into the 60s, The Skatalites transcended popular music, introducing and defining Jamaican music and culture to the world. Combining the best of American boogie-woogie with R&B, jazz, and big band swing, The Skatalites created the up-tempo syncopated island beat dubbed ska, which evolved into rocksteady and reggae. The original backing band for Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, and Toots & The Maytals, these two-time Grammy nominees have toured extensively worldwide since the 80s.

TRUE SKA ROOTS
THIS CD IS THE BEST ONE FOR THE NEW SKATALITES. GREAT SKA ALMUM, GREAT HORN RIFFS, GREAT GROOVE….TRUE SKA ROOTS.

Great introduction to The Skatalites
This is the first Skatalites album I bought, and I think it’s a great way to get into their sound. Now that I know a little more about these amazing musicians, and after hearing most of their classic 60′s records, I find this album their best since their reformation, in the 80′s.
I agree with the last review, these songs are really true to their ska roots, plus you won’t get the poor sound quality of the 60′s recordings. It’s well recorded, now you can in fact hear the bass lines and the terrific job by Lloyd Knibb on the drums. This senior citizen never got the recognition he deserves for inventing the SKA beat, which is the same beat as the reggae beat, the reggae drummers just slowed it down. I was lucky enough to see him play 2 weeks ago, with the reformed Skatalites.
The tracks sung by Doreen Shaffer are the icing on the cake.

Where To Buy The Impressions The Never Ending Impressions by The Impressions At The Lowest Price?

The Impressions The Never Ending Impressions by The Impressions

Why Buy A The Impressions The Never Ending Impressions by The Impressions?
These two 1963 and 1964 albums are contained on this the first of five CDs that comprehensively cover the ABC-Paramount recordings of the fabulous vocal group The Impressions. In their various guises, the group scored 133 (yes, thats not a misprint!) US R&B chart singles and 85 on the Pop chart. Led by the charismatic singer, songwriter and guitarist Curtis Mayfield, the group also included Fred Cash and Sam Gooden (and, for the first album only, Arthur and Richard Brooks). In 1958, the group had backed Jerry Butler on such recordings as his mammoth hit For Your Precious Love (No 3 R&B, No 11 Pop). Mayfield continued to work with Butler as a musical arranger and guitarist but in 1961, The Impressions signed with ABC-Paramount and cut the sultry, Latin-tinged Gypsy Woman. It achieved classic status, reaching the charts at No 2 R&B and No 20 Pop. The songs that comprised the first album The Impressions collected early songs from 1961 and 1962 and the subsequent years sessions, including their next big hit Its All Right (No 1 R&B and No 4 Pop). It also defined the Chicago sound of soul – smooth, cleverly arranged vocals, light dramatic orchestrations and subtle but compelling rhythms. Now tied up with the other co-founder of the Chicago sound – Johnny Pate – Mayfield and The Impressions cut their first complete album Never Ending Impressions, a key album from that soul era. The sound The Impressions created influenced not only American and European pop balladeers (The Walker Brothers among them) but it had a great influence on Jamaican music. I Gotta Keep On Movin supposedly influenced Bob Marley when writing the reggae classic I Shot The Sheriff. This release marks their first time ever on CD in their original form.

Cyrtis Mayfield – the greatest writer of Soul songs of them all?
This cd combines the first two records of the all-time classic group The Impressions. Curtis Mayfield was the leading figure and driving force behind the group. The man contributed so much to the soul sound of the 1960′s, and was the main architect of the “Chicago” soul sound, writing songs for many others, including Jerry Butler and Major Lance. But it was his group The Impressions where everything jelled.

The first record, titled simply “The Impressions” was basically a compilation of most of the group’s singles up to that time. It has a number of classic tunes, including the hit It’s Alright. You can hear the style of the early song-writing of Mayfield beginning to form. The Never Ending Impressions continues the trend, with Mayfield writing even tighter, and sometimes more mature songs.

Both of these albums showcase the early part of The Impressions career ( but not too early ) where they were beginning to really come into their own and shape the course of what was to become known as Soul Music. If you like sweet harmonies and catchy tunes, all sung with power, truth and beauty, then you must get this cd.

Where To Buy Reggae for Kids Movie Classics by Various Artists At The Lowest Price?

Reggae for Kids Movie Classics by Various Artists

Why Buy A Reggae for Kids Movie Classics by Various Artists?
Reggae for Kids: Movie Classics takes the magic of Disney and ramps it up tenfold with 13 Disney movie themes and tunes from the studios well-loved films–all set to five-star reggae interpretations. Some of these songs sound as if they were meant be recorded in the syncopated and lilting reggae form, especially Bunny Wailers playful reprise of Hakuna Matata, Don Carloss splendidly rich Zippity Do Dah, and J.C. Lodges Colors of the Wind. The latter tune is so inspired by Lodges honey-coated vocal that the songs poignant lyrics translate well through the worlds of difference between European explorers and the Native Americans honor of nature and spirit. Lodges rendition ultimately communicates much of the myth embroidered in Jamaican music and religious beliefs. Like so many of Disneys deep and lyrical songs that create a place of timelessness where childhood never ends, these transported classics are effortlessly reborn–and rejuvenated–for any listener. Highly recommended. –Martin Keller

My preschool class loves it
Anytime you are trying to connect with children through music, it helps if you like the music too. I get into this c.d. I just love it and my preschool class loves to see me so happy.

Great for Adults too!
I heard this cd played on a local public radio station in Cincinnati back in late March and was moved to call the radio station to find out what the cd was and where I could find it….Amazon.com had the cd and I was thrilled that I wouldn’t have to drive back to Ohio to make the purchase. The cd is wonderful for children and adults who grew up with Disney movies and songs.

My sons’ favorite CD
I bought this CD without knowing any reviews. We lucked out…because its great. My son is 3 years old and loves all the songs on it. His favorite is The Lion King! It’s not a very long CD but its worth it. You can play it again and again and again. Its fun and relaxing at the same time. I feel like I’m on a beach somewhere!!!!

Always a favorite
Along with Laurel Aitken and Desmond Dekker, Derrick Morgan is a godfather of ska, rocksteady, and reggae. Like the other two mentioned he is a favorite of skinheads, rudies, and mods the world over. Great stuff here.

Long Live Desmond
Desmond Dekker was turned down in his first few attempts at breaking into the Jamaican music industry…thankfully for us he found Leslie Kong and Derrick Morgan.
Desmond brought Jamaican Music to the world well ahead of Bob Marley (Isrealites), and is a must for any collector. His early music is an outstanding example of the music that would eventually become Reggae (Ska and Rocksteady).
Anyway, Desmond just passed this week after 40 years of bringing music to the people- he will be missed…do yourself a favor and aquaint yourself with him quickly
