Very underrated
It is a great game. I don’t know why it got such reviews. It’s difficult? Yeah. You’re going to die a lot? Yeah. But the idea is NOT TO GET KILLED. If you fall and die, it was your fault. The controls are responsive, the production values are really high, and probably the biggest concern would the the story. But what would you expect from the concept of a guy who has a bionic arm who is fighting bio-terrorists? There’s not much you can dig on that.

Cruelly Underappreciated…My Personal Game of the Year
The critical reception to Bionic Commando was anything but kind. The PS3 version of the game is sitting on GameRankings with an aggregate score of 72%. I’ve seen games get the short shrift before, but never so much as Bionic Commando. I have a small confession to make; I’m only halfway through the game, but I’m so enamored with it that I couldn’t wait to write a review. Here’s the breakdown:

Graphics: Stunning throughout. Animations seem realistic (considering the subject matter at least) and environments are breathtaking. Not much to say because there’s nothing to complain about.

Story: I’ve heard that this aspect takes some criticism; apparently the ending is love it or hate it. I’m enjoying the story partly because of the effective voice-acting. Steve Blum always puts on a good performance, and he’s effective here as Super-Joe. I’m not familiar with the VA for the main character, but he certainly does a good job of making me believe he’s enjoying the swinging as much as I am- which brings us to…

Gameplay: There’s nothing else on the market like BC. It’s not an FPS or even a standard 3rd person shooter. The main focus is on effective use of the bionic arm. The result has been compared to the Spider-man games, but such a comparison leaves out the nuances that BC brings to the table. First of all, the level design is superb. Whereas the Spider-man levels games are typically limited to swinging around the same old skyscrapers, BC’s levels are filled with all kinds of broken buildings, suspended railways, caverns, and more. Even if the mechanics of the swinging were identical, the game would play much differently. But the swinging requires more precision than SM. Some players make the mistake of giving the game five minutes and deciding it sucks. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of using the arm, but once you’ve got it, you’re in for some gameplay gold. The reason the game “works”, in my opinion, is that it doesn’t focus on split-second reactions and near-impossible jumps. Instead, the emphasis is on tactics. How does one effectively navigate the war-torn landscape and attack ones’ foes while evading their gun-fire? Answering this question is the job of the player. Using the arm, for instance, to swing into battle and then swing out to recover is a rewarding experience. The boss battles, in particular, do a fantastic job of highlighting the difference between this game and your vanilla third person game.

Sound: WOW! If you’re familiar with the themes from past BC games, you’ll recognize some remixed themes. This soundtrack, however, is simply outstanding. From the elegant piano theme in the main menu to the thundering symphonic arrangements during battle, these pieces do much to elevate the gameplay to something truly special. On a related note, I intend to do some serious searching for the sheet music to the menu music; I would love to play that on the piano.

Let’s talk downsides for two seconds. I’ve heard a lot of criticisms, and these are the two that I deem to be accurate:
1) Radioactive out-of-bounds. Linear games have the difficult task of creating some means to provide limits to the environments. The standard but laughable solution of times past has been the familiar “invisible wall”. BC tries something new by simply killing the player if they stray out-of-bounds for too long. It is explained that much of the city is irradiated and that our protagonist must avoid this stuff like the plague. Most of the time, this radiation is clear enough to see. But those few times it surprises you can get pretty annoying. This solution to an old problem might even be elegant if well-implemented, but there are some weird choices here. Sometimes, the UPPER HALF of a building will be irradiated. Usually, level limits are lateral in natural, so coming across this can be vexing.
2) Collectables. See, you’re gonna die a lot; this isn’t an easy game (on Normal, at least). Most games don’t make you re-collect collectables if you die before reaching the next checkpoint. Well, BC does. Get used to it.

These cons are really quite minor in comparison to the fantastic gameplay on offer. Every major aspect of BC screams high production values, and the gameplay offers something truly novel and rewarding. The price of BC has plummeted in most places. I found it new for 20 dollars. Don’t believe the critics; Bionic Commando is an astonishing accomplishment.

Great, even for first-time buyers!
I am getting ready to purchase my first RV, and I love this book! It starts with the basics like A-class vs c-class vs trailer, etc. Then it continues on to describe each system that you might encounter and how to tell if it is operating correctly. It doesn’t give nitty-gritty schematics — that is for owner manuals. It is laid out such that if you are getting ready to purchase a used (or even new) model, you can go step-by-step over the systems and have a real good idea of what you are getting yourself into.

As an example – I never would have thought to ask the dealer if they would sterilize the water tank before we purchase the used unit. I am not a mechanic, so I never would have checked under the hood or chassis. After reading this book, not only did I feel I SHOULD do these things, but I had a good idea what to look for that might constitute trouble! Even looking for things like crazing and bubbles on the exterior….

Plus, this book is written with a good sense of humor and lots of real-life examples from the authors’ experience. So, even when parts of it get dry (like the electrical wiring), you can bet they will add in a blurb that will make you giggle at the end of it!

I am SOOOOO glad I purchased this book, and I plan to hang onto it and re-read it before trading up for a better model in a few years!

Excellent quality, easy to build
As others have stated, this trike is very well built and the air-filled tires make for a super ride. There is no problem putting it together — those who have stated there is must have tried without looking at the instructions. The instructions use no words, but the drawings are crystal clear, with closeups for areas that might be considered difficult, and the steps and pieces are all numbered or lettered for ease of identification and order of assembly. From box to the first ride was less than 20 minutes, and I am not a mechanic or anything other than a normal father.

This is the BMW sport model
Our family went to the local bike store and had the luxury to compare the Air Happy and the Happy Navigator models in person. We decided to go with the Air Happy for the following reasons:

It is more compact
It has a stand/foot-rest over the rear tires where a child may stand and push the bike.
It was actually easier to steer with the parents’ pushbar without the Happy Navigator’s special navigation system–especially in reverse.
A child may brake by pedaling backwards or using the hand brake.
The plastic clip which secured the rear bucket on the Happy Navigator appeared flimsy

We cannot comment on the assembly as the bike shop put it together for us and pumped up the tires, but overall, this is a great tricycle for our 18 month old. For her age, the specialist at the bicycle shop thought that she should wear a helmet, but perhaps not the seat belt as she is old enough to be developing her sense of balance. I initially really wanted the Happy Navigator to be the trike of choice because of its popularity and the assumption that because it’s more expensive, it must be the more deluxe model, but in person, the Air Happy is simply a sturdier, better design.

Overall, a general comparison can be made between the Air Happy and the Happy Navigator in the same way that a BMW can be compared to a Mercedes. Both are beautiful and well designed, but the BMW (the Air Happy) is the sportier of the two in design, handling, and response.

Nice book…good collection.
My husband turned me onto this author. It is definitely science fiction and I thought I would hate it, but I found several short stories in it I liked. They are really thought provoking. My husband bought this book and I know he would give it 5 stars, so I did. This is a nice change from a long, chaptered story, because you can jump around and pick and choose the longer and shorter ones depending on what time frame you are looking at. The stores run in length from 4 pages to 15 pages just to give you an idea.

It’s a good collection. It is true that this is a reissue, however there are plenty of people who have never seen it before. (Including Me.)

The story Paycheck is completely different from the movie, in ALL manners. Also, it includes a ton of good stories, even if a few aren’t the best. The forward also helps.

It’s just a VERY good Sci-Fi book. Enough said. Beyond the Wub is priceless.

Not really a review, but…
I just wanted to inform that this is the same “The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, Vol. 1″, published before under the titles “Beyond Lies the Wub” or “The Short Happy Life of the Brown Oxford”. I think it would be much easier to find this new edition, but this title is listed as “by Steven Owen Godersky” and not “by Philip K. Dick”. If you already own the collection (or this particular volume), there is no need to buy it – the content is exactly the same. I am referring to the ISBN 0806526300 in this review, not the 0575070013 – so pay attention when you buy it.

I am very pleased with this product. My 3 year old son loves building his truck and taking it apart with the power drill. He was showed one time how to do it and took off with it on his own from there. He continues play with the drill through out the house. I was impressed with the durability of the truck parts and drill. Not flimsy at all. And the size is decent too. The parts are big enough to find if dumped into the toy box.

Developed by Namco in 2003 for playstation 2. As a relatively straightfoward action game, and short one, at that the most distinguishing characteristic of Kill Switch is a mechanic that has your character taking cover behind objects and around corners – like Winback some years before the third person version of Namco own Two Crisis series.

Kill.Switch: Take Cover, Take Aim, Take Over your game collection…
When I first bought this game, I thought it would just be an average, run-of-the-mill military shooter. Man, was I wrong… It started out simple enough, with a basic training simulator. As I progressed on, I quickly mastered the easy-to-follow controls. Then, they introduced the “cover and fire” technique, and I was impressed. It seemed especially realistic when I felt the recoil, and the element of blindfire. Ready and waiting for some action, level 1 began. I fought through the first few levels, amazed at how intelligent the AI was. “Take cover or be eaten alive by bullets? That’s just like real life!”, I found myself thinking. At first I expected the AI to just stand there and get shot (i.e. the Ratchet and Clank series), but they worked as a team, switching off between laying down suppressive fire and advancing. They utilize every technique which you are given, PLUS they have teammates. I soon learned how the health works, by depleting quickly and then refilling to a set max, similar to Call of Duty 3. Then came level 3, one of my favorites. I quickly ran into the level, then sensing an enemy presence I took cover behind the first crate, and exactly as I did this, shots came out of the window in front of me. I took the enemy out, and advanced around the corner. As I kept advancing down the street, each few feet triggered a new wave of enemies, each with impressive technique. As I turned and hid behind a truck, a helicopter came out from behind a building and swept over me, unloading with machine guns. I then realized this was no ordinary game; it was an experience. when level 4 came, it was sort of fun to see 2 guards having a conversation about someone dying on a tanker “just like this” when they were on guard duty (A nod to Metal Gear Solid 2). From then on, the levels got progressively tougher, causing me to have to restart several times on certain levels (the one where the tanker is about to explode, the first Aztec temple level and the 2nd to last level, just to name a few). In fact, I had to get my brother-in-law to help on the last Aztec temple level with the intelligence base (even though I think I was the one to beat it in the end). The story is intriguing, revealing one part at a time with each passing level. Although it is complicated, by the end you start to see the whole picture, and it hints toward a sequel. This game is excellent, has clean and crisp sound, and it feels nice to be the bad guy for once. A multi-player feature would have made this game even better, but I’m assuming if they make a sequel, it’ll have two-player. Another thing I would have liked is maybe including a rocket launcher in the arsenal, and maybe another sniper rifle, or a type of handgun. The graphics are impressive with silky-smooth animation, and the weapons you do have are powerful. Now, let’s break it up into Pros and Cons:

People have been saying this game sucks, this game is boring, blah blah. The problem is, they have no patience and don’t understand what this game is. It IS a shooter. The thing that makes KILL.SWITCH awesome, is the gameplay. You utilize cover to advance (if you don’t, you won’t last) in this game. The missions are increasingly hard, and they are technical. You need to employ a strategy. Some people who have a problem with that will tell you this game sucks. Well, I say they suck and this game rocks. Once you get INTO this game, you will love it as much as me. I’m dying for a sequal. Pray for it everynight. It’s the best Video game I’ve ever played, and that’s saying a TON. If you get good at this game, your friends will watch you kill mother*!%kers with amazement and think you are some kind of a God.

Built Like A Tank
Bought this monster in November of 07′. I live in Maine and we got 30 inches of snow in the month of December. This machine is had no problem with anything.

I price shopped for 2 days, and did tons of research before I bought it. The details are as follows.

After talking with Poulan Pro they explained that this model is made exclusively for Amazon. The engine is actually 11.5 hp. It was so easy to assemble. I was able to drive this thing through that hardened wall of snow at the end of the driveway that the plows made with no problem. The engine is a beast. It didn’t ever bog down. It never clogged the chute, even with really wet snow. I think I got this at a steal price of 899 with free shipping. If I have one complaint it’s just that this machine goes like 20 mph when put it on the fastest drive setting. I guess that’s in case you need to run back inside before the police catch you throwing the snow back into the street. lol

I have not used the pull start. The machine starts with the push of a button on the first try every time with the electric start cable.

I am a mechanic and the only thing I adjusted was the scraper bar. It is adjustable so you can scrape right down to the driveway.

Also, the black body with yellow wheels looks so cool.

The best part is that you can be driving, and throwing, while adjusting the chute position at the same time.

The impeller, auger, and chute are all steel. Real nice. Not stamped steel like the junk at Home Depot.

Anyway, you will look forward to big storms if you own this machine, and yes…it works great with even 1 inch of snow.

Excellent product
I received the snow thrower earlier than schedule, however it has been a little mistake with the eagle deliverly guy who put the big box at the front door of my neiborgh house,(even thou I was talking with a manager of the company who verified that the delivery man knew where I live and will leave the box in front of the garage). Since I could not move the package myself, I had to open it up and pushed the machine home and cleaned up trash at his door. I just wish it will not happen to me again, if I want to buy a Plasma TV thru AMAZON in the future.

Poulan 30″ 11 hp review
Rec’d the Poulan snow thrower yesterday – 12/30/08 and had it running within an hour. This has been the ’snowiest’ December in Spokane (WA) recorded history. So, this beast was a little late (my fault for not ordering it sooner) for the big dump, but was able to clean out my neighbor’s drive (300′) and yard (~ 2,500 sq ft) in about an hour.

Being retired military, and having access to the base exchange services, I was able to order the Poulan snow thrower through the BX on-line store. I ordered it on 12/19 and rec’d it on 12/30 with the thrower having been shipped from Atlanta. Due to the huge amount of snow, there wasn’t a snow thrower (let alone a snow shovel) to be had in Spokane. Had it not been available through the BX, I probably would have ordered it through Amazon.

The freight company was very good about keeping me informed as to the shipment progress. When it arrived, I went to the freight company and picked up the blower in my pickup. That allowed me to get it a day earlier plus there was some question as to whether or not the delivery truck could even get in our driveway with all the snow on the ground.

As others have commented, this is a heavy piece of crated freight (280 lbs I believe). Instead of cutting the box per the ‘cut here’ lines, I opted to pull staples around the base of the box and then lift it off off the pallet – box cutters and I don’t get along well. That left the unit bolted and tie-wrapped to the pallet.

I am very fortunate to have a pair of in-ground hydraulic vehicle hoists in my detached 3-bay shop (the previous owner being a ‘57 Chevy ‘nut’). I backed my p/up to the hoist – which I had raised to the truck bed level – and (with my neighbor’s help) pulled the palletized, but now unboxed, thrower from the p/up onto the hoist arms. After pulling the p/up out of the shop, I was able to assemble and prep the thrower standing up – MUCH better than stooping and/or laying on a cold shop floor. Once assembled and ready to go, I lowered the hoist, used the electric start (it started immediately) and drove it off the pallet/hoist and started looking for snow to throw.

Pros (so far):

1. The 30″ Poulan thrower is heavily built – very sturdy construction. I didn’t notice any handle bar wobble or instability.

2. Finding some 6″to 8″ snow in my neighbor’s drive and yard, I ‘dove in’. The blower gobbled up and threw that stuff nearly 30′.

3. Running this, or probably any large snow thrower, takes a little getting used to – sorta like walking and chewing gum at the same time. For me, it was about a 5 minute learning curve – if I can figure it out, anyone can!

4. I like the electric start – the unit came with a 10′ plain ‘ol 3-conductor extension cord – I’ve spent a lifetime pulling starting ropes and am now taking a break from that drudgery.

5. I really like the control panel-mounted discharge chute azimuth and elevation controls – I never did care for the cranks. This is a joy to use.

6. As one reviewer observed, the traction control lever does not indicate the various forward and reverse speeds. I agree that it would have been nice to have the forward and reverse ‘gears’ indicated. However, I found that, after finding the lowest forward speed, that was what worked best for me. Not really a ‘pro’, but am just glad to let the machine pull itself along without me having to push it.

7. One reviewer commented that it was difficult to get it out of his garage. When ‘pulled in’, the handle-bar ‘trigger’ traction controllers disengage each wheel so the entire unit ‘free wheels’ – I didn’t have any difficulty pulling or pushing the unit when it was free-wheeling.

8. The thrower is very well balanced and easy (for me anyway) to push around when the traction drive is disengaged.

Cons (so far):

1. The assembly manual was a little cryptic about the installation of two control rods. I kinda had to ‘play with it’ – it fit fine, was sort of a puzzle though – that ate up about 15 minutes of the assembly time – was probably my mechanical ineptness…

2. There is a little red ‘key’ that must be inserted into the engine to allow it to run. I simply couldn’t find that key – finally saw it tie-wrapped to the engine and obscured by several control cables. The key doesn’t turn – just insert it. Recommend securing the key to the handle bar with a piece of wire or loose tie-wrap to make sure it doesn’t get lost.

3. Not a ‘con’ per se, but the ‘drift cutters’ have not been of use to me. I opted to remove and store them before they could come loose and fall off.

Observations:

1. My thrower has a Tecumseh 11 hp engine. In looking at the large Poulan thrower reviews on line, there seemed to be some concern regarding the reliability of the Tecumseh engine. Most commentors recommended allowing the engine to warm up for a few minutes before going full-throttle and putting it under load. The times I’ve used it so far I’ve let it idle for a few minutes before opening the throttle and going to work. Quite frankly, it seems to make sense to let any snow thrower engine ‘warm up’ for a few minutes before going full-throttle.

2. I’ve used several different brands of large snow throwers in the past. One thing they all share in common is at least some vibration to one degree or another. This unit is no exception – though I doubt its vibration is any worse than other blowers. Point being is to check the hardware (i.e. handle bars, skids, etc.) before going out just to make sure it’s all tight – only takes a minute and can save days of waiting for replacement parts. Too, at $50/pair for replacement skids (Amazon price), it’s a lot easier and cheaper to check the hardware for tightness before heading out.

3. It isn’t going to move a 6′ berm without a little help – you may have to chop some of the berm into manageable pieces and then use the thrower to toss it back further.

4. “Mileage”: Starting with a full tank of gas, I ran it steady for about 1-1/2 hours and still had a some gas left.

5. Prior to getting the Poulan 30″ thrower, I relied on my John Deere lawn tractor and 42″ “snow blade” to keep our drive way cleared. Though it worked ok, a blade just can’t ‘pile’ snow – thus our driveway kept getting smaller as more snow fell. My neighbor kindly allowed me to use his large Cub Cadet diesel tractor w/front loader to periodically pile the berms back from the drive area. However, I hated to keep imposing on him for use of the tractor, so I thought a large blower was the next best option. Turns out it was – I can now clear my driveway in less than half the time I used to spend on my little tractor, plus the snow is thrown way clear of the driveway.
