Just when I needed it
I have collected Charles Swindoll books through the years and the Lord has lead me to read them at the precise moment that I need to hear from Him. I am at a crucial point in my life and I am blessed at how seemingly, Chuck captures how I feel exactly… His prayers at the end of the chapters are my very prayers.

Though Chuck doesn’t deal with each verse of 1 Peter, he has certainly unpacked his thesis. Chuck is not only a great expository preacher; he is a great writer.

I recommend this volume highly. The metaphors are riveting!

“Hope Again” is yet another great book by Chuck Swindoll. This title focuses on the hope we have as believers in Jesus Christ despite the trials and temptations we go through. The Book of 1 Peter was the focus of this book.

Among the important points covered include:

1. Loving our brothers and sisters in Christ is a great way to witness to the world.
2. 3 natural reactions to unfair treatment.
3. God is good to those who wait on Him and seek Him.
4. Living an authentic Christian life will shock a pagan crowd.
5. Living life in view of Christ’s return will give us perspective.
6. Be the person God created you to be.
7. God’s way for us to deal with authority, attitude, and anxiety.
8. Battle tactics of the devil and 3 responses to his ploys (this was a particularly good chapter!!!).

Read, enjoy, and be encouraged in the Lord to hang in there and not give up.

DIFFERENT AND INSIGHTFUL
I strongly recommend this book to those who are interested in
or involved with Christian, Jewish, and/or Tao outlooks.

The author and editor take the position that Jesus and Lao Tzu
represented 2 separate philosophical disciplines that branched
from the same originating river (GOD). This is,to my way of
thinking, quite extraordinary,considering the vast differences
of East and West histories and cultures, and communication.

It’s too bad that this book is not in more people’s hands

(and lives!). You get 3 basic things from the book:

1) An excellent overview of Jesus’ and Lao Tzu’s teachings,
and how they relected on each others’, as presented
in the preface.

2) A breakdown of all the teachings into 9 catagories;
1 catagory per chapter. Each chapter comprises many paired
quotes from each teacher; you be the judge to just how similar
they are to each other.

3) A Commentary section following the 9 chapters/topics
that is well worth having all by itself. Tremendous insight,
backed up by the referred to precious chapters.

If all the above isn’t enough, and it is, the binding
ends with a fine list of recommended books for furthur
study.

Again, if you are a serious Jew, Christian or Taoist
(or seeker of deeper meaning in life) I think you should
have this as one of your key reference books.

P.S. Jesus’ sayings in the book are just Jesus’ sayings
alone, not mixed up with what disciples and clergy added
to the Gospel from their vantage points.

Compelling
Stephan A. Hoeller does it again. This incredible scholar is able to show how Jung sees the individual vis-a-vis the deeper Reality found within everyone, which many call Gnostic. Everything else is viewed on the basis of this Reality, and this is what Jung did in setting out the structure of his psychology, reflecting his awareness of this Reality.

I bought the book because I have a curiosity about Jung, but Hoeller’s sensitive scholarship in another of his books, “Gnosticism – New Light on the Ancient Tradition of Inner Knowing,” is what made me reach for this one without hesitation.

The Gnostic Jung
I have been on a 10 year quest to discover a new God. With the old one of childhood fleeting, a new one could be comforting. In fact many of my friends are there because of our common history. Jung presents the Gnostic God as a psychologically useful spirit that allows all our past history to fit into the new concept. Many of the early Christians were Gnostics, many were Hebrew with gnostic familiarity. Paul was certainly Gnostic, and with 75% of the New Testament Paul’s; 3 new levels of interpretation now make the Bible exciting.
I feel a great comfort from Jung’s insights. This is not an easy book to understand, but Hoeller does a great job in interpretation for us common men. There is deep insight into our need for gods or archetypes of a collection of properties we need to refer to frequently. And, he points out nicely how the Christian God is not the universal God of all, because our christian teachers would cut half his essence away, they would take away all evil and make him only the God of good. Nice try, but he’s only half a god the way I was taught as a young person.

A Must
I had a full blown mystical experience while reading this book; doors blown off, skirt blown up, massive spiritual energy coursing through my body, total bliss, in love with the world for months following. Doesn’t sound like it happens to everyone who reads it but it’s important for an understanding of duality and non duality, a fundamental concept in understanding consciousness. Read it. I met Stephan, he’s an amazing man. God Bless you sir.

Get this book!
I came across this title while doing some research into Gnostic Gospels. I was not at all expecting on finding a gem such as this. I am happy to have been directed back to Jung after my first introduction years ago that just sampled a tiny bit. I enjoyed him then, he really blew my hair back this time.

The Seven Sermons take up a very small portion of this book. The greater part is made up of the introduction and commentaries. All 3 sections are quite strong. Hoeller does a fantastic job at bringing in a myriad of influences and distilling them for consumption. Very well researched and well written.

This will no doubt be one of the favorites on the bookshelf to return to time and time again.

I cam upon on it right at the perfect time. Hopefully your encounter will be similar. I wish you luck on your journey.

Great dramatization of Easter
I loved this cd and used it in Sunday School. The children drew a picture about Easter while listening. The quality of the drama and sound effects was a wonderful way to share the Easter story in a different way.

The one to own
This book has almost every chart anyone doing bible study could want, lists of rulers, parables, miracles–Old Testament and new Testament: Psalms by categories,maps etc.It even has a harmony of the gospels. The only thing missing is a good chart of the various OT covanents.
The book is also very well put together, clear table of contents, color throughout,and spiral bound so it lays flat.
Don’t bother with anyu other book of Bible maps and charts, this one is the only one anyone needs.
