Great forensic mystery without all the gore
Clymene O’Riley is in prison for murdering her husband. The authorities think she is a black widow and has killed others, but they haven’t been able to prove it.

Diane Fallon is in charge of the Rosewood, GA, crime lab as a forensic anthropologist as well as director of the River Trail Museum of Natural History. Actually the two jobs work well together.

Clymene is a manipulator and very smart. She asks to speak to Diane. FBI Profiler Ross Kingsley talks Diane into seeing her.

In the meantime museum assistant director Kendal Williams is under scrutiny, along with the museum, due to a report in a local newspaper that she knowingly purchased stolen artifacts. The rumors could destroy her career.

Clymene escapes from prison and is believed to have been murdered. Diane becomes the prime suspect.

Can she and her crime lab staff discover the identity of the real killer? Can Diane also help clear up the reputation of the museum and Kendal?

I absolutely love this series. Diane is such a great character. No matter whether she’s caving or investigating, or working in the museum. I devour these books and can’t wait for the next one.

The author does such a fabulous job plotting them out. I always have a terrible time trying to put the book down. I just have to keep reading to find out who did it and how.

I highly recommend this book and series.

My First Beverly Connor Novel – It Won’t Be My Last!
Dead Hunt was my first experience with author Beverly Connor. I decided to give her a try in part because of some of the positive reviews of her books here, and I must say, I’m sold! Immediately upon finishing Dead Hunt, I went on line and ordered a copy of Dead Past, the book in the Diane Fallon series just prior to this one.

First of all, Dead Hunt is very well written and was a joy to read! Also, Diane Fallon isn’t your typical heroine. She’s a forensic anthropologist with a fascinating career, working both as Director of the Rosewood Crime Lab and Director of the RiverTrail Museum of Natural History (which owns and houses the lab). Her dual hats make for some interesting plot possibilities!

In this installment, Diane has received a letter from Clymene O’Riley, a woman in prison for murdering her husband – convicted on evidence found by Diane herself. The letter requests Diane’s presence at the prison. While Diane has no intention of meeting with the woman she believes is a serial killer, Ross Kingsley, the FBI profiler connected to the case, requests that Diane comply with the request. At their meeting, Clymene tells Diane a strange but worrisome story involving a prison guard, something that Diane can’t ignore.

In addition, Diane finds herself embroiled smack dab in the middle of a scandal involving the museum which places her in an exasperating and career-threatening situation that diverts her attention from the meeting with Clymene – that is, until she learns that Clymene has escaped from prison and crime scenes start to pile up, with Diane herself in danger.

Diane Fallon is surrounded by top-notch, loyal individuals, both in the crime lab and the museum, and they work together diligently and relentlessly to get to the bottom of everything that is going on. The science is fascinating, and the characters, both good and bad, interesting. I recommend this book highly, and fully intend to read more novels by Beverly Connor – especially the next Diane Fallon Forensic Investigation book!

forensic anthropology
Forensic anthropologist Dr. Diane Fallon is back with another twisted adventure involving her beloved RiverTrail Museum of Natural History, of which she is the director. Right now there is a lot keeping her busy – most prominent is the lead story in the local paper about one of her employees – assistant director Kendel Williams – dealing in stolen antiquities through museum channels. But in the middle of that fire is an incarcerated felon (Clymene O’Reily) asking Diane, who helped ensure Clymene’s conviction, to help save the life of a prison guard – a felon who is convicted of killing her husband and suspected of much worse. When Clymene escapes prison shortly after Diane’s visit, all eyes turn to Diane – did she help the serial killer, or is she about to become her next victim?

Though small, the museum is teeming with activities from the employees – museum and crime lab. Yes, crime lab. Diane is also the director of the crime scene unit for the area, whose labs are housed within the museum, as well. While her specialty is bones, her reputation for detective work has preceded her, and this time she’s teaming up with FBI profiler Ross Kingsley in the search for Clymene’s past – a past that the chameleon-like criminal has managed to keep under wraps. Using her know-how in forensics and anthropology, Diane and Ross managed to dig up more than a few secrets – but can they do it without ending up like the fossils in the museum?

Diane should take up juggling, because it seems that is all she does in this book – and she does it well. Handling the FBI concerning the lost felon while dealing with the FBI agents investigating the stolen artifacts is confusing enough – but add apartment troubles and secret poisonings into the mix with several irate and outspoken members of the museum board, one is never sure where the story is heading next.

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Connor’s work, and I hope that won’t happen next time. Fallon is an excellent, well-rounded protagonist whose life is somewhat on the hectic side, but never dull. There seems to be some stretching to get the small museum in on the crimes, but Connor has created something of a unique situation to keep the series alive. This is a great mystery with suspense, a little romance, and forensics all between the pages.

Where To Buy Who Killed Martin Luther King Jr Second Edition by James Earl Ray At The Lowest Price?

Who Killed Martin Luther King Jr Second Edition by James Earl Ray

Why Buy A Who Killed Martin Luther King Jr Second Edition by James Earl Ray?
James Earl Ray never had a trial. A few days after he was coerced into pleading guilty, he withdrew his guilty plea. Tennessee law provides Ray with the right to a trial, but his eight requests for a trial have been denied. Now Martin Luther King, Jr.s widow, Coretta Scott King, has joined Ray in seeking a trial to set the record straight. Her son, Dexter King, told a Tennessee court on February 20, 1997: It is right, for the sake of truth and justice that there be a trial to get at the truth. Nothing but the truth will set us free. The rifle that Ray admits he brought to Memphis in April, 1968 was never test-fired; its bullets were never compared to the bullet that killed Martin Luther King, Jr. Although the FBI stated that the bullet was too damaged to test, ballistics experts agree that newly developed technology, a scanning electron microscope, can determine whether the rifle with Rays fingerprints was the weapon. The rifle with Rays fingerprints on it was carefully left on Main Street in Memphis in a box, along with Rays prison radio. The radio had Rays identification number etched into it. Would an assassin take time to leave incriminating evidence before fleeing the scene? In 1994 a former federal judge and a jury from Memphis heard attorneys present a televised mock trial of James Earl Ray. A former prosecutor presented the case and Ray was defended by an attorney of his choice. The jury found Ray not guilty. The real killer has never been apprehended. After reading this book you too will ask Who Killed Martin Luther King, Jr.?

Suspenseful page turner
Dark Room is a suspenseful page turner by Andrea Kane. The protagonist, Morgan Winters, was indelibly marked because 17 years ago, she discovered the bodies of her parents when she was just eleven years old. She has moved on and become a successful entrepreneur, thanks to the loving support of her adopted family and a great deal of therapy. That is all put in jeopardy when it is learned that the person who had confessed to the crime, didn’t commit the murders. The killer is still out there.

Pete Montgomery is the retired cop who was never quite satisfied with the confession. Now he is a private investigator and more determined than ever to find the killer so Morgan can rest easy. Unfortunately digging into the past has a price. The price this time is threats to the family that raised Morgan after the murders. The more they dig, the scarier it gets.

The only upside to the situation is Pete’s son Lane, who as photographer and analyst for the CIA has skills the investigation desperately needs. The sparks fly between him and Morgan, and as the investigation gets closer to its conclusion, the pair finds themselves charting new territory.

Andrea Kane gives us a terrific story populated by characters that are believable and lovable. There are no cardboard cutouts here. Even the people on the fringes of the story are given strengths and foibles that make them well-rounded and human. I found the story interesting, but the real interest was in how these people interacted with each other and forced each other to grow. In the end the dark room isn’t the lab where the photos are developed, but the room inside of each of us that holds our worst fears. Kane gives us a glimpse into that room.

A worthy follow up to Classic films
A series of novels based on the famed Universal Monsters films. What a wacky idea! Rather than continuing the story from Mary Shelley’s classic, the Shadow of Frankenstein picks up after the events of the Famous 1930s film and its sequel, the Bride of Frankenstein.
The story begins with Henry Frankenstein and his Bride fleeing by ship to London with his Monster, thought dead by everyone, following close behind. Once in London the lives of both Baron Frankentein and his Monster are thrown into turmoil by the reappearance of Jack the Ripper after a 50 year absence. It is only a matter of time before the Baron’s grave robbing activities put him in the path of the killer and he becomes the prime suspect in the murders, as well as the focus of the Ripper, who feels that Frankenstein’s monster holds the key to imortality.
I love this verison of Jack the Ripper. He is not the historically accurate Ripper, but rather Jack through the prism of the Universal Monster’s world. Mr. Pertucha wisely keeps him in the shadows literally and figuratively. Little is revealed about him which keeps him interesting throughout the story and adds to his menacing presence. One wishes the producers of the movies thought about including ol’Jack in their pantheon of characters.
Baron Frnakenstein is also very well developed as a character here. Petruch inject him with a highly distorted and interguing world view which makes this book immense fun to read. His dedication to his work making him a bad friend, a terrible husband, a criminal and a victim at the same time.
Let me also add that readers needn’t track down the 1930 version of Frankenstein or it’s sequel to follow the story. Plenty of background information is given. People can also pick up the wonderful graphic novel adaptation of the Frankenstein film in the Cavalcade of Horror collection by Dark Horse.
Dark Horse Publishing has always excelled at taking a quality series of movies and making worthy follow up stories which keep to the spirit of the source material. They have produce material based on famed properties like Aliens, Predator, the Terminator, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the Shadow, Doc Savage and Conan and surpassed some of the better konw movie sequels to those properties. I hope this series meets with the same success and encourage anyone interested in horror in general, or Universal Monstors world in particualr to pick up this winner.

best in the series
this is as they say, it. a blending of the frankenstein universe with that of jack the ripper in a manner to do kim newman justice, and the morale of the frankenstein story kept intact: how does “normal ” society respond to those seen as different? the karloff version was often studied as a misinterpretation of mary shelly, with it’s cinematic adherence to theories of “normal vs.abnormal brains” but mr/petrucha gives succeeds in teaching us the ethical error of this thought, in tracing the origin of the creature’s brain-but i won’t spoil it for you!
fans of colin clive as baron frankenstein should treasure this book, which continues his portraial as a complex scientist both intriguing and controversial. the book ends in an open note, that calls for more installments, and possibly such that combine with the bride of frankenstein by elisabeth hand, also an excellent book .

A must-read for fans of the Universal monster movies!
If you have watched Universal’s Bride of Frankenstein, then you will surely have an appreciation for Stefan Petrucha’s “The Shadow of Frankenstein”. The story’s premise takes off where Bride ends, and we see Henry Frankenstein and his wife flee to England. Just as Henry tries to lead a semblance of a normal life, his past catches up with him – in the form of the monster he created and also a link to a serial killer, Jack the Ripper. I liked this association that Petrucha draws between Henry, the monster and Jack the Ripper, but above all, what held my interest was the way in which Petrucha portrays Henry’s keen scientific- driven desire to understand how and why the Monster behaves the way he does – having to do with the notion of a defective brain.

As for the Ripper thread – well, here the Ripper is alive and well, even though his dastardly crimes were committed more than 50 yrs before. Apparently, the Ripper has been dabbling in the occult and has found a way to live longer, but the process is degenerating and he wants Henry to help him live on.

All in all, I found “The Shadow of Frankenstein” an enthralling read and fans of the genre won’t be disappointed!
